Usual reason is SELinux blocks access to certain modules or classes from loading. Please disable SELinux – AliEn does not support SELinux. If you want or have to use it nevertheless, please ensure all necessary resources for Perl and AliEn are unblocked by SELinux.

Many times we've seen this problem connected to a wrong glibc version on the Linux machine. Currently,

AliEn requires glibc version 2.6 as provided e.g. by SLC5. Please update your glibc or machine.
